Week of NISA Round Up

Over the past five days, the Prinnies at NIS America has announced their upcoming titles for the next year. With so much content announced, some of it may be easy to miss. Luckily, we here at HHL have decided to round up all the exciting information and throw it all out in one post. (And no, there aren’t any needless slideshows or annoying video ads in our lists.)

Day 1: Birthdays the Begining (PS4) [March 7, 2017]

In this age of Minecraft and Super Mario Maker, it only seems natural for the release of new creative sandbox games. Birthdays the Begining is a beautiful claymation-inspired game that allows its players to quite literally play God, creating very worlds as well as its inhabitance.

“From the creator of Harvest Moon, Mr. Yasuhiro Wada (TOYBOX Inc.), comes Birthdays the Beginning: a new sandbox game in which players create cube-shaped worlds that give rise to diverse and unique lifeforms. With careful experimentation, players can shape the geography and alter the temperature of each world to create the conditions for life and witness the birth of an entire ecosystem!”

Day 2: Cladun Returns: This Is Sengoku! (PS4/PS Vita/Steam) [Spring 2017]

While perhaps not as well-known as Danganronpa or Disgaea, one of NIS America’s longest running series is the dungeon crawler Cladun. This week they revealed the latest entry of the series, Cladun Returns: This is Sengoku!

“This is the latest entry in the Cladun series where you as the main character will meet classic heroes from Japan’s Sengoku Era and help the souls of the dead settle their unfinished business.”

Day 3: A Rose in the Twilight (PS Vita) [Spring 2017]

Continuing the eerie vibes of htoL#NiQ: The Firefly Diary and Yomawari: Night Alone comes A Rose in the Twilight. Known as Rose and the Old Castle of Twilight in Japan, A Rose in the Twilight is a challenging puzzle platformer ready to accept any challengers. As with htoL#NiQ: The Firefly Diary before it, the game promises to escalate its difficulties, pushing players to perfect each move they make.

“A girl awakens in a castle void of color and time, affixed with the Curse of Thorns upon her back.
After meeting a sleeping giant, the two work together to escape. Help them unravel the mystery of
the thorns and the history behind the somber castle.
In A Rose in the Twilight, use Rose’s power to absorb blood and transfer it to static objects. By
doing so, colorless objects become red and regain the essence of time. You will also need to make
use of the giant’s super strength by lifting and throwing objects to clear your path.
Every stage is a puzzle waiting to be pieced together. The further you get, the harder it becomes,
but the greater the risk, the bigger the reward. Discover how to solve each stage as you delve
deeper into the story’s grim origins.”

Day 4: Operation Abyss (Steam) [Early 2017] & Operation Babel (PS Vita/Steam) [Spring 2017]

Serving as a sequel to last year’s Operation Abyss, Operation Babel has players once again follow the Xth Squad shortly after the events of the previous game.

“Continue the story of Operation Abyss and defend near-future Tokyo from a new threat in this
dungeon crawling RPG. When a mysterious object – dubbed ‘the Embryo’ – appears in the sky,
the CPA and the Xth Squad are mobilized to face the new threat. Venture into challenging new
labyrinths and create the perfect team to challenge each threat. Featuring a mysterious new
story, unprecedented character customization through the new ‘Sub-Blood’ system, and item based
character ability modifications, Operation Babel: New Tokyo Legacy will give you a world
    to lose yourself in.”

Day 5: Danganronpa Another Episode: Ultra Despair Girls (PS4) [Summer 2017]

With the upcoming PlayStation 4 release of Danganronpa 1•2 Reload, this was only a matter of time. Unlike the main games, Ultra Despair Girls is an action/adventure title that connects the scenarios of the first two games.

“Komaru Naegi, little sister to Makoto Naegi, has been imprisoned inside a mysterious apartment for over a year. One day, she is rescued by Byakuya Togami of Future Foundation, but the rescue is derailed by a sudden attack of hundreds of Monokumas. Komaru soon discovers that the city has been taken over by a group of children calling themselves the Warriors of Hope. Their leader, Monaca, declares that the city will be the site of a “children’s paradise,” and to accomplish this, all the adults will be exterminated. Komaru teams up with Toko Fukawa to try to survive the rampaging Monokumas, escape the crafty Monokuma Kids, and uncover the secrets of the city.”
